Travel Day – CSSRA 2016 – “It is never mundane”
I started looking at last year’s first post in the blog and realized that not much has changed from last year. A number of new student athletes are on the trip and Mr.Wismer is back with the Senior Girls. So to expedite matters quickly, I am going to plagiarize most of my first post from last year.
It was an early start to the day when the 44 student athletes and five coaches met at the Crooks Dining Hall at 3:45 am to get on the bus. The first leg took us to the Victoria airport where we met up with three other teams travelling to Toronto. Our Westjet flight left at 6:15 am and was a direct four and a half hour jaunt. A little sleep for the first two hours and then the annual mandatory two hour study session on the plane. All of the passengers around us are always bewildered how we are able to get the kids to turn the light switch from sleeping to studying in the blink of an eye.
Once landed in Toronto, we were picked up by charter bus on the final leg to the Holiday Inn at the Heart of Niagara in St.Catharines.
After our “all you can eat Pasta Bar, we all hopped into the five vans and headed down to the course to unload the trailer and wash the boats. The atmosphere was electric as we had a large number of student athletes who were seeing the Mecca of Canada’s rowing for the first time.
After all the boats were rigged, washed and put away, we took the entire group to the Canadian Superstore to let them do a very brief shop for snacks for their rooms. Meetings to end the day, a swim in the pool via the hot tub and by 9:45 pm, all to bed they went. Lets see what tomorrow will bring? Breakfast, two practices on the water, lots of food, a trip to Niagara Falls, two hour study session, more food, meetings and then a well deserved date with their bed at the end of the day. Blog of findings to follow….
It is important to share with you all where you are going to find the information about this weekend:
